A friend of mine, a comedian, she gets her own show greenlighted by Comedy Central. It’s kind of a wacky fantasy show based on her life, really funny, she hires me as a writer and the job pays pretty well and I get my name out there and the pilot airs and everybody loves it, except at some point somebody in the writers’ room suggests that the character based on me gets eaten by some kind of monster in every episode as a running gag, and everybody loves it. So the show continues to air with pretty good ratings, it gets picked up for a second season, but every time I watch my character get eaten on the show it’s almost like I feel it in real life. I start to have nightmares (within the dream) about getting eaten, and at some point the dream shifts to the TV show’s world, where I spend all my time running and hiding from the monster that inevitably eats me periodically. It hurts when he does, and I’m always terrified, but everybody else thinks the show is hilarious and it’s doing well.
